Every year, we support a family at Christmas. The name is drawn from a local charity. We buy gifts for the children, for the parents, something as a family gift for them to do together, a gift card for groceries, a goodies basket, and fill stockings for all of the children. If the family has a pet, then h/she gets a treat as well!

We deliver it after dinner on Christmas eve to the family. Often the family's children are asleep, so they believe the gifts come from Santa the next morning. The look on the parent's faces is worth the cost and effort.

I agree we are lucky people. We are blessed to have food, clothes, and shelter. This should never be taken for granted and we should thank God for it daily. Our family supports Christian Help this time of year. We try to donate at least three or four new toys, and help all the toys get delivered in time for Christmas. My children love it as well.

We do some special stuff at Christmas for others, through some great organizations. It's fun to do the little personal things too and watch from a distance as the gift is received. My goal this year is to remember to do these things as a couple throughout the year, perhaps at times when it will be more of a sacrifice on our part.

@Christina - THAT'S what Christmas, and this challenge, are all about. It truly is better to give than receive not only during the holidays, but all year round. Keep up the great work!

@Anonymous (December 3rd 3:50 AM) - Thank you, and you're welcome for posting it. I think it's important to always remember how fortunate we are to have the things in life that we do. Enjoy the holiday season!

@Anonymous (December 3rd 10:14 AM) - Your donations mean the world to the children who receive them. Keep up the outstanding work, and happy holidays to you and yours!

@Susie - I love hearing you challenging yourselves to continue on with charity throughout the year. Thank you for all you and your family do for others, and I hope you have a wonderful holiday season!

@anna - Every donation counts. Your old TV and clothing can bring a lot of happiness to those boys and girls. Kudos to you for doing your part. Happy holidays!
